Access to important plants
Some plants you can buy at any nursery. Others you cannot get at all, and not because someone is hoarding them. The plant itself makes access hard: it will not set seed without a pollinator that is gone, or its seed dies within weeks, or the last wild stands are down to a handful of individuals on a cliff.
Pono Plant is a Hawaii-based effort to make those plants reachable. The rare, the endangered, the native-Hawaiian, the culturally important. The plants that are worth the trouble.
Access, to us, is two promises. Teach you how to grow the plant, and give you a lawful path to a nursery-propagated one. Where the horticulture is settled, we say so. Where getting a plant to root is still our own bet, we call it a hypothesis and show our work.
Start with the plants, read how we grow them, or see how access works.
